Finally finished watching Qing Shen Shen Yu Meng Meng last night... whew.. after so many months... Didnt get to finish watching the show in nov, because my mom brought me back to jkt before i could...
The show was shot like 10 years ago, with the 1920 Shanghai as the setting. The show basically revolves around the Lu Family, with Lu Yi Ping as the protagonist. The head of the Lu Family, Lu Zhenhua lived in Harbin and he practices polygamy. He would force women he set his eyes on to marry him. He had 9 wives altogether.He moved to Shanghai eventually, bringing his 8th and 9th wife and their children and his loyal adjudant and his family with him.
Lu Zhenhua was a Great Commander, a hero. He fell in love with a woman Ping Ping once, but was heartbroken because he was unable to be with her. Ever since, he would marry any woman who bears resemblance to Ping Ping.
His 9th wife, Wang Xueqin, is a scheming, unscrupulous woman. She has a glib tongue, which was the reason why Zhenhua favoured her the most and was eventually the only wife Zhenhua kept. Xueqing bore Zhenhua 2 sons , Erhao and Erjie, and 2 daughters,Ruping and Mengping.
The 8th wife, Wenpei is a soft-spoken and kind hearted woman. She bore Zhenhua 2 daughters, Xinping and Yiping. As Xinping resembles Zhenhua's old lover the most, Zhenhua loved Xinping a lot. Unfortunately, Xinping died early. Yiping is stubborn, proud, yet kind hearted.She always stand up for her mother. After moving to Shanghai, Wenpei was framed by Xueqin, and was forced to leave the Lu residence.
Years after Yiping and Wenpei left the Lu residence, Yiping was whipped by her Father when she asked for some money. Since then, Yiping severed ties with her father and her family "from the other side", and claimed that "she would have her revenge and laugh when she sees all of them crying". It was the start of her new life. She began working as a singer in a lounge and fell in love with a reporter, Shuhuan, who happened to be her half-brother, Erhao's, best friend. Coincidentally, Yiping's half sister, Ruping, fell in love with Shuhuan too.
The show was based on a novel, which was written by the author of Huan Zhu Ge Ge, which is why it bears some similarities to the show, in terms of its plot . It is definitely a fresh change from Korean shows and Taiwanese shows. At the very least, we could actually learn some things from the show. The show discusses about family ties, forgiveness, and love, love not only for another guy/girl, but also for families friends etc. Even though the show gets rather draggy in the middle, but it is worth pumping your time in this meaningful show.
Yiping sang this song to express her longing for Shuhuan when he went for war. She waited for him to come back from war for 8 years
